WIA: Amateur Radio 'Remembrance Day Contest' Opening Address:

The Amateur Radio "Remembrance Day Contest" for 2016 now has an opening
speech, of 15 minutes. The contest is on 13th and 14th August 2016 0300z to
0300z This contest commemorates the Amateurs who died during World War II
and is designed to encourage friendly participation and help improve the
operating skills of participants. It is held on the weekend closest to the
15th August, the date on which hostilities ceased in the southwest Pacific
area.

Ham Operators from Various Professions Chasing Passion:

Its 12.30 p.m. on Saturday and a senior High Court advocate Kuthumbaka
Ramesh was reporting the situation of a ghat in interiors of Srisailam in
Kurnool to the Command and Control Centre (CCC) at Durga Ghat via a
hand-held transmitter. Tiruvidhula Satish, a Chartered Accountant, was
passing on information of pilgrim rush at the Vijaya Krishna Ghat in
Vijayawada to the CCC, which is monitoring entire Krishna Pushkaram. He was
there for a six-hour shift passing on the information. The duo is not part
of any government team monitoring the Pushkaralu, but is part of the Ham
Radio network -- an alternative and definite medium of communication during
the Pushkarams. Not just Mr. Satish and Mr. Ramesh, there are about 50
others from various professions involved in the network as Ham Radio
Operators.
