In the news today: THE HAMMIES SPRINT THIS AFTERNOON VOORTREKKERS USING SPECIAL EVENT CALL SIGN ON 16 JUNE and TWO INTERNATIONAL SPEAKERS AT THE AMSAT SA SPACE SYMPOSIUM Stay tuned for more information on these and other interesting news items. We begin the bulletin with news of five silent keys. It is with regret that we announce the keys of Jan Jordaan ZS3JAN, Jerry De Ru, ZS6JDR, Danie Potgieter, ZS6AXX, Joffre Papenfus, ZS3EY and Charly du Pont, ZS5DU have gone silent. Jan passed away on Saturday 27 February, while Jerry passed away on Tues day 1 June and Danie on Saturday 5 June. Joffre passed away on Thursday 10 June and his wife passed away on Wednesday 2 June. Charly passed away on Friday 11 June 2021. We extend our sincere condolences to the families and friends of these rad io amateurs. THE HAMMIES SPRINT THIS AFTERNOON The Hammies Sprint is a fun activity to promote contacts between Hammies a nd radio amateurs in Southern African countries with an emphasis on ZU sta tions and runs from 14:00 to 15:00 UTC (16:00 to 17:00 CAT) this afternoon , Sunday 13 June 2021. The exchange is RS and provincial abbreviation, DX for all stations outside South Africa and the QSY rules for Sprints ap ply. It is a phone contest on the 40-metre band. Logs, in ADIF, Cabril lo or MS Excel format shall be submitted by 23:59 CAT on Friday 18 June 20 21 and sent by e-mail to . za) or ) . Get the rules in the 2021 Blue Book. KYRGYZSTAN LATEST TO ARRIVE ON 60 M Paul Gaskell, G4MWO reports that the Union of Radio Amateurs of Kyrgyz R epublic (ARUKR) has announced on 4 June 2021 that the Kyrgyzstan Telecommu nications Regulator made the new WRC-15 Amateur Secondary Allocation of 5 351.5 - 5 366.5 kHz available to Kyrgyz amateurs at a maximum pow er of 100 W. Other Secondary allocations made available at the same time w ere 472 - 479 kHz at 1 W, 122,25 - 123 GHz and 134 - 141 GHz both at 1 00 W. VOORTREKKERS USING SPECIAL EVENT CALL SIGN In celebration of the Voortrekker Movement's 90th anniversary, a special event call sign, ZS90VTK, has been issued. The call sign will be acti vated on 16 June 2021, Youth Day, from the roof of the Voortrekker Mon ument. The bands to be used are 40 and 20 metres as well as 2 metres. The Voortrekkers in Namibia will operate under the call sign, V55JAM. All r adio amateurs, Voortrekkers, Scouts and Guides are invited to contact the respective call signs. For the remainder of the year, special trans missions will made from various monuments in Sout Africa and a special QSL card will issued. For any additional information, please contact Gerhar d, ZS6CRS at ) IARU REGION 1 WORKSHOP The Region 1 Workshop was held yesterday 12 June on the Zoom platform. Mem bers Societies were tasked at the April Workshop to do a SWOT analysis and yesterday the feedback was given. South Africa, Serbia, Tunisia and S pain were asked to prepare a 10 minute slide show of their SWOT analysis a nd present it at the Workshop. More information in next week's bul letin. NEXT GENERATION BEACON FUND TOPS R18 000 The SARL Next Generation beacon fund administered by AMSAT SA topped the R 18 000 mark and currently stands at R18 150.
