Ninety Days
U.S. License Changes over two 90 Day Periods from www.hamdata.com:
Hamdata information sorted from FCC publicly-available database of 24 May 2007 and [in square brackets] 24 January 2007: New Licensees 8,732 [5,281] Expirations 8,109 [6,496] Class Changes 15,819 [3,100] Call Changes 2,876 [1,231] All Updates* 47,863 [44,976] * Renewals, address or name changes, plus other administrative changes. The number of new licensees has gone up but not doubled as in the last (60 Day) posting. This comparison is to the November 2006 to January 2007 90-day period when code testing was required. The number of license class changes has approximately quintupled since the advent of code testing cessation on 23 February 2007. The number of callsign changes has slightly more than doubled. Expirations are slightly increased. In the last 90 days the number of new licensees is greater than the number of expirations; for November 2006 to January 2007 period expirations exceeded new licensees. The November 2006 to January 2007 period includes the announcement of FCC 06-178 ending code testing on 15 December 2006. That may have influenced the November 2006 to January 2007 numbers. Comparing the 90-day period ending 24 January 2007 with the 90-day period ending 22 September 2006 [sqaure brackets] we get: New Licensees 5,281 [4,529] Expirations 6,496 [9,722] Class Changes 3,100 [2,704] Call Changes 1,231 [1,458] All Updates* 44,976 [30,315] There is only a slight increase in new licensees but a definite downturn in expirations from September to January. The sudden increase in adminstrative updates may be a reflection of "summer" activities since this second comparison uses the months of July to September. 73, Len AF6AY |
