Bradley Observatory hams it up.Â*Agnes Scott College has recently added a
new dimension to further distinguish itself among women’s colleges. The
college has installed what is believed to be the first amateur radio
station on a women’s college campus anywhere in the U.S. The station is
located at the highest point on campus, Bradley Observatory, and was
established with the enthusiastic support of Agnes Scott faculty in the
Department of Physics & Astronomy: Nicole Ackerman, Amy J. Lovell and
Christopher De Pree, director of the Bradley Observatory.

NWS invites amateur radio operators to event.Â*The sound of Michael
Jackson’s “Thriller” filled the conference room at the National Weather
Service Office in North Platte on Dec. 4. Meteorologist Bill Taylor laughed
and shook his head before walking out of the room.Â*“I told you,” said Kevin
Curtis to Taylor, who apparently didn’t believe that there was an amateur
radio station out there playing Michael Jackson.Â*The sound faded as Larry
Petska, of Hershey, turned the radio dial to find something he actually
wanted to listen to. It wasn’t music the men were after — it was other
weather service offices.

Â*11 grads can help you in an emergency

.. Lets pray to God that we dont have an emergency. That from Bruce Lenton,
Algoma Amateur Radio Club (AARC) educational director, speaking to
SooToday. However, if there is ever an emergency (natural or man-made)
which disrupts our lives, Lenton wants the public to know that fully
licensed amateur radio operators, commonly known as ham radio operators,
will be there to assist.
