One of my passions is introducing our youth to amateur radio and helping
them get involved. I have been involved in some of the great activities at
the Dorothy Grant Elementary School (K6DGE) in Fontana California including
participating in several mentoring and VE sessions. Involving Youth in
amateur radio is one of the most enjoyable and rewarding aspects of this
hobby.

The folks at Remotehamradio.com also share this passion for youth and
amateur radio. In 2014, they created their youth program. The find, select
and connect licensed youth to real amateur radio stations that they can use
remotely any time they want. How cool is that?

As of now, the RHR Youth Program has 16 sponsored Youth’s and they are
seeking more! Many of them are very active. Tucker-W4FS is an extra class
licensee and is attempting to qualify for the WRTC 2018 youth selection in
Germany. Could you imagine being able to use big contest stations at age
14? How exciting thatÂ*could have been?Â* Well, these kids are doing it and
they are having fun. Isnt that the premise of this great hobby, having fun
with radio?Â*

The folks at RHR hope to grow their youth program by adding not only more
sponsored youth to the program but to work with schools and universities to
enable more direct access for students and youths.

Just today, they announced their “Education Network” comprised of high
school and university radio stations that will allow for unlimited access
for students and youth around the world.
