Solar panel RFI

Im thinking of putting up a bunch of solar panels on the new house.

Some people have complained about the noise and interference coming from
the panels. Im not sure if turning them off when I want to use the rig
would make any difference. Or if the RFI is more of an issue that can be
fixed (like shielding it properly, etc.).

Any wisdom on this one?

RF Coupling to a Metal Roof

My house has a metal roof and I have been considering a vertical antenna.
Instead of connecting to the roof directly, what if radials were simply
laid on the metal roof - would that amount of coupling be good enough to
obtain a good ground plane? (I dont know if the sections are electrically
connected or not.)

160M receive only antenna for DX What do you use?

I used a BOG at my last QTH but since then I moved from the country to the
city and I have been unhappy with my ability to receive DX on 160 with the
exception of Canada. My transmit antenna is a inverted L but is worthless
for receiving anything but strong 9S+ signals at night. I have tried the
K9AY and a LOG as well as other antennas I ran across on the web but none
seems to get the job done well. I have been pondering a Waller Flag
antenna as well but It would take up too much room in...

160 m sloper won't tune, SWR OK

I have a MFJ-DXA, supposed to do 160 - 40. Anyways, I gave up on 40, and 80
is working well. 160 was OK about 2 weeks ago but now, even though the SWR
looks good, the auto tuner (LDG-100 Pro II) will not tune it. Previous to
this I didnt have the auto tuner and the Icom 7300 managed very well to
tune it.

With the snow, ice and rain Im trying to avoid a trip up to the roof for
now. Im attaching the data my AA-30 analyzer sees.

All comments are greatly appreciated.

IF you had the option ......

I guess Im just looking for opinions and experienced educated guesss.

For stateside contests.

If you had the choice of an 80m flat top dipole, 80m inverted vee or a 160m
inverted vee at the same height (center support for the vee) ...... Which
would you choose?

If you could raise said antenna from 35-40 ft. to 60 ft. ( or more ) would
you?

Matt
