The xnews score file which was posted previously has been updated to

Google has now been blocked entirely, because it is now recognized as
a major Usenet abuser which is responsible for allowing far too many

Google posts have also been blocked.

Xnews is a free news reader which does not have to be installed.
Simply extract it from the zip file and start running xnews.exe.

immediately effective filtering system.

An xnews / slrn score file allows you to specify filtering rules for
each news group or for a collection of groups. You do that by
enclosing the name of the group(s) in square brackets.

After the bracketed name of the groups, you specify a score. I don't
bother with elaborate scoring, and instead give all matches a score of
-9999. That causes the matching posts to be killed.

So, for all of the rec.radio.amateur hierarchy, plus the flame_fest
news group, you can use the following score file (lines starting with
"%" are comments). Text case is ignored by default, so "get help"
matches "GeT HElp" when specified below. If you don't want to use a
rule, simply insert a "%" character as the first character of a rule,
or else delete the rule completely.
