Based on the enforcement actions and the exam investigations, the FCC has
only found need to investigate a tiny fraction of the tests conducted. This
refutes your assertion that "plenty of Extras..." were able to "buy" their
licenses.

You need a course in oceanography and glaciology.

Ever heard of "Tip of the Iceberg?"

They're more like isolated cases rather than widespread abuse. Not
everybody's goal in life is to "cheat the system".

True enough. But do you think Riley has been 100% effective at
catching the cheaters?

Assuming you mean that there ia huge amount of corruption, and only a
very few are seen? Any supporting evidence?

- Mike KB3EIA -

Mike, are you saying that Riley is 100% effective? Or is there
something in between?

Dunno Brian. I wouldn't think that those two things are completely
related. Obviously he won't catch everything. but that doesn't mean that
it is a tip of the iceberg thing.

I've participated in VE sessions in PA, CA, TN, and overseas with the
Armed Forces, and have never seen so much as a wink or a nod given in a test
that could even give the impression of cheating. let alone actaully happening.

The one and only time anyone MIGHT have had reason to raise suspicion was
addressed with a letter identifying a relationship between an examinee and
examiner, (cousins), and the examiner in question didn't even touch his paper
or so much as say hello to him until after the exams were done. (There were
five examiners present)

Besides...who NEEDS to cheat when the Government publishes both the
questions AND the answers prior to the exam?

Every exam that I have sat on has bent-over-backwards to make sure that
asolutely NO character issues are present before the exam.

But there is *some* ice to be found under the water, right?

I think Bruce got his Extra while underwater.

Good thing you Extra'd a long time ago. If character issues prevent a
legitimate exam, neither you nor Bruce would have upgraded.

I think Bruce is the first Nickel Extra Old Timer. In any event, I
enjoy most of his posts!
