Actually, SEVERAL OTHERS did that before me...then the resident Haters surfaced amid boiling bile. Code trainers are nice and all, but....... "Morse Runner" is described as a Contest Trainer, NOT as a "code trainer." :-) Thanks for the precision! 8^) It will get you in shape for that mighty athletic "radiosport." :-) You can always join the New Movement to make ham radio "unique"...by emphasizing morse code. Why would I want to do that? Morse discussion is boring for the most part. Useful in here for whapping opponents over their cyberian noggins with, but in the end, it is just as annoying and worthless as the fringers in here. Nobody else uses it but radio amateurs. "Len Over 21" wrote "Morse Runner" is described as a Contest Trainer Actually, it's not described as a Contest Trainer. Sunuvagun, you set out to make some "message points" and stumbled over your half-vast research again. Sunuvagun! 3, de Hans, K0HB |

Still think's Amateurs are the only one's who use Morse Code, and completely ignores the reasons we DO use it...If the MILITARY doesn't do it, we shouldn't...Of course then that put's Lennie in a bind since HE is the one always trying to "make hay" over the use of the word "service" in Amateur Radio. Sorry, Mike, but its all about the code. Or didncha know?
How's the balloon project going? bb |

Right...and an SUV is "just an auto to make trips to the market in or take the kids to soccer practice." :-) If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, then it IS a duck everywhere except in hamateur radio among the mighty macho morsemen. Sunuvagun, you set out to make some "message points" and stumbled over your half-vast research again. Hoo, ya bin hanging 'round with them iceholes again? :-) I can't make it down to Legion Hall so why doncha go back to all them sea stories? Or, das gruppenfuhrer can tell all about whuppin' Charlie while In-country in 'Nam...or the Avenging Angle (aka "Last Action Hero") can spin yarn about his mighty "seben hostile actions?" Bear facts from da Katapult King workin' for Navel Intelligence would be as good. Ho hum. |

I'm gathering up the info that needs to go to the various "department heads". At that point, we are going to set a date, in early spring if possible - to have two flights, tethered for the first, and a free flight with just enough equipment to track and retrieve for the second flight. We need to shakedown the equipment and ourselves. Beyond that there are more presentations to make to other schools in the area. We'll probably pitch to homeschoolers also. They are always in need of projects for their children. - Mike KB3EIA - |
Welp, Mike, it really is all about the code. Such a shame.
Anyhow, I just got my copy of QST in the mail today. Says "Annual Vintage Radio Issue" on the banner. Kind of like the rest of the year except maybe April. I guess the joke's on us. How's the balloon project coming along? bb |
I just reposted again to your original post - having problems with the
new google beta interface. Odd. You responded to my earlier post, yet that post doesn't appear in the thread tree. Have any of the resident experts jumped on your wagon? bb |

Even Len's posted some stuff just to get the converstaions going. He has? Code trainers are nice and all, but....... Well, here's a revival of an old subject: FCC recently turned down an ARRL proposal to divide the HF bands by bandwidth only. While the basic concept looks good, some of the resu;ts (like allowing automatic stations anywhere on the bands) would not have been. And How! The PSK "segment" of 20 meters is being ruined by Pactor stations that transmit, looking for a signal, and hardly ever break, just a short pause to listen, then start up again. These are w i d e signals with lots of spurs and (splatter?). The net effect is that the signal often takes up the whole segment. Since most of us are using almost qrp levels, we get stomped. That is why Digipan now includes a Pactor receiver, so we can report the miscreants. Some time back, a few of us here discussed the idea of "refarming" the Novice segments as "digital playgrounds". The idea was that Novices and "Techs with HF" would get more bandwidth on their current bands (say, all of the CW/data parts of 80/40/15 now allowed to Generals, but at the Novice/Tech Plus power level) and the present "Novice bands" on 80/40/15 would be opened up to digital experimentation. Meaning any properly documented mode except analog voice would be allowed there. A better idea? That is a very good idea. If we are ever going to get digital voice going, we need a playground that doesn't interfere with the rest of the world. Or I should say it would be a help. Then there's Hans' (K0HB) two-class upgrade-in-ten-years-or-leave license concept. Perhaps it's time for that to become a formal proposal. While I don't agree with all of it, I'd really like to see what reaction and comments it would generate. Arrgh, not that one again! ;^) - Mike KB3EIA - |
