The "personal point" was his lack of character then, and his lack
of character now.

From a bit farther down in that same post:

I'm another "old man," a retired professional in
radio-electronics engineering. Some of those tenured
old men of US ham radio don't seem to want anyone
with practical, professional and academic skill in radio
and electronics technology.

Ironic, considering Lennie's penchant for antagonism, that he
wouldn't just go ahead and get the license just to prove the "old men
of US ham radio" wrong.

Of course the ONLY "old man" holding Lennie back IS Lennie!

They seem to fear those
who have industry-proven capabilities because that
doesn't fit into their standards...or because they are
insecure in not really knowing what goes on behind
the front-panel of their factory-built equipment.

The only one having a problem with "fear" is the old man who won't
take a couple of hours to go get the license. Of course that's because
Lennie KNOWS he can't live up to ANY standards...Those "standards" of
those "old men" operating that factory built equipment that he insists
that no one but he understands, or the standards of the "old men" at
the FCC who set the "standards" of the test that he insists he can pass
blindfolded with one arm tied behind his back.

They have difficulty in trying to put down those who know
practical theory so they try to make fun of them
instead...

Oh, make NO mistake, Lennie...we have NO PROBLEM putting a putz
like you "down". YOU make it SOOOOOOOO easy to do!

As for OTHERS who posses those skills and knowledge who ARE
licensed (and ACTIVE!), they ARE welcomed and much respected. Lennie
could be too...Might even find that modicum of respect and recognition
he couldn't muster in "professional" radio.
But we (and especially HE) will never know!

....from the above

"When 99-412 goes into real restructuring in April, it
won't change some of those tenured old men of US
ham radio. They will be bitter, boastful, and express
contempt of newcomers, some of which will have the
exact same government-granted rank/status/privilege
as all those old men who claimed they "worked" for
theirs. Human nature doesn't change. Neither have
they."

Lenny my boy, all things 'ham radio' move like
maple syrup in Maine in February. This is as
much a constant of life issues as is Ohm's Law
and Income Taxes. I still hear hams on HF
outgassing about crap from 20 years ago as
if it happened yesterday. (This is known also as
the S.O.S.D.D. Principal - also common to other
"hobbies" like Model Trains, Golf, Equestrian
competitions and all-male Country Clubs)
What else can we say, it's human nature in all
of it's humorous facets. Always good for a
laugh. The Jerry Springer Show on the street
and in the waiting room.

Tell ja what.....save this post for 5 Years
and at that time, I'll bet you 6 dozen Dunkin Donuts
(and I'll buy!) that the same bunch of dirty old men are still
sending each other dirty nudie pics to each other
via Slo-Scan on HF and dumping a handfull of
pennies into the kitty at the club meeting then
taking 2 or 3 doughnuts and 2 refills of coffee.
(....assuming they put anything $$$ at all in the
kitty...the damm chain-smoking cheap *******s!)
