Then they would have been wise to have stepped up to the plate and
enlisted.

Do a bit of history research on "Maritime Marine", "Civil Air
Patrol" and "Office of Civilian Defense" during WW2.

CAP "civilians" still lose their lives "in the line of duty",

and
they weren't even getting paid for it.


Then they did something horribly, horribly wrong.
