While I was hashing out Kerry's record with Dave Hall (N3CVJ) it
became obvious that the DD-214 was used for both discharges -and-
transfers until around 1980 (official title: "Report of Transfer or
Discharge").

Correction: I checked my own DD-214 and the 'edition' date is 1 JUL 79
and entitled "Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty".
So it has changed over the years but not much -- the only difference
is that they don't use it for transfers anymore.
