What sort of community do we wish to be and do we wish to be seen to be?

A community of technically-motivated adults, discussing
and promoting the technologies of radio communications
and the natural phenomena that underly such communications?

or

A community of Citizens' Banders, acquiring Cheque-Book (CB)
radio equipment without understanding the innards, and to whom
the SWAAAAARRRRRING of a TWIG is a rite of passage typical
of the nonsensical world of make-believe and superstition of the
religionists? (Just how many of their magicians in a garb of white
gowns are needed until the magic starts to work?!)

or

A community of Billies-No-Mates lacking the social graces and
peer companionship of normal well-adjusted adults who go out
of their way to entice young children into their closed shacks, and
then
deceive those children that somehow they are educationally
equipped to be the technical equivalence of Heinrich Hertz despite
that they cannot tell one end of a resistor from the other unless
a crib sheet is present to spoon-feed them?

Is that a typo? Did you mean ARSE? Why would we want to prompt Beanie?
He does a good enough job of making an arse of himself without being
prompted!

Perhaps a start could be made by Radio Amateurs, as a group, following
the lead of the US authorities with regard to visitors visas, which in
this case would involve expelling those who have ever been arrested.
Re-admission would be limited to those who pass a searching interview
of the 'vetting' type, undertaken at their own expense - perhaps with
a retest as well. Those who have travelled on an A-class visa and
who's first Amateur Licence was an A would of course be exempt from
this procedure.

Oh dear, I've just repaired a SWAR meter for an M3 who bought it at a rally
only to find that it diddn't work.

As his postings show, he's one of life's ignoramuses [1] who likes
things kept simple [2].

Having two requirements to meet would floor him.
