As mentioned in the other story the chassis was covered in ``transformer
soot gas`` . Westleys tire cleaner and the garden hose was used . Schematics were printed out and several wrong parts replaced with the right ones and new lables were printed out . I am not one for ``over polished`` chassis but this one was simply washed down with soap & water .. NO buffing Please forgive the bad webtv picture |

Looks pretty nice, after just a wash. I have used Westley's before on badly
dirty/stained painted cabinets, but never thought to try it on a chassis. Phil Nelson |

Cosley ?
Phil You may have seen my past postings on washing jukebox parts with Westleys . I started with amp and selection chassis in those that led me to try it on radios . This particular chassis was in great shape with no rust . I have no idea how it stayed so untarnished while looking at the condition of that cabinet ??? Maybe the smell of that trany tar coating kept mice away ? From what i saw this radio sat on an old damp basement floor for years & years . It came out real clean . Many chassis i have washed didnt look this good because of tarnish or rust . I wont go to this washing extreme unless i have to . Very important is blowing the stuff dry directly after the washing . An old vaccuum with the hose stuck in its output and a flat tool creates warm forced air for this . Westleys can be a bit hard on some selected wire simply because it can fade the color insulation . It usually always fades out old wax caps but those get replaced . Once & a while it will turn some IF can coil wax light gray , a gentle heat gun will usually restore that if you need . I would use 409 but it takes 5 times as long ...but.. its gentler . Different chassis act different to this extreme treatment . |
