Anybody know what this is? A Philco?

There is an auction happening this Saturday not far from where I live, and
one of the pictures they posted on their site is of this radio. Obviously
(to me, at least) it has been stripped, and is almost ready to be
refinished. I plan on going over and checking out the auction, but can
anyone tell me what make it is, and anything interesting you know about it?

Thanks in advance,
Buck

Looks like a catalog brand to me, like Mantola or Firestone, one of those.

That thing bears a fairly close resemblence to Ward's Airline floor
console that I have. The chassis in it is a 14WG-1203(B, G or something).

Hi!

Maybe a Silvertone

You know, I took one look at that picture and said "that looks like a
Silvertone"!

I saw a Silvertone set very much like that in someone's house. It didn't
have as many bands, but the knob layout was identical and the color was very
close.

Mystery solved. It was a radio. Wooden.

Barn-fresh, whic in this case means it sat under an intermittenbt drip from
November to May or june most years, which left a woderful patina of fat,
furry rust on the chassis and speaker, while gently delaminating the top,
leaving a soft, squishy surface.

But I -did- pick up that nifty Viking..

Oh, the mkae of the console was Serenader, a house brand of Simpson's Canada
made by Electrohome, in Kitchener, Ontario.

Extra Points to those who can tell me the name of the City of Kitchener,
