Police Frequency for Falls Church, VA

I was interested in buying a scanner to listen to the police in my
city, Falls Church, VA. I was wondering where I could find a list of
local frequencies and whether I need to buy a scanner that can track
trunked systems or not. I am a complete newbie and any help would be
appreciated, thanks.

Thanks. I noticed that there are frequencies listed under "Falls Church
Talkgroups" as police ch. 1, police ch. 2, etc (listed under the
Arlington County System). At the risk of sounding dumb these would be
the frequencies I would tune to in order to listen to my PD, right? I
also noticed something at the top of the Arlington County System page
that said that PD units were having a their radios retuned which
probably involved changing frequencies as part of the 800 MHz and
switch to the P25 system. Would the switch to the P25 system (which I
understand is some kind of standard for wireless digital communication)
mean that I would be unable to listen
in to the police department with a store bought scanner?

Depends on what kind of scanner that you have. They operate on a trunking
system so you would need a trunktracking capable scanner. If they are
switching to P25 then you would need a digital scanner to listen in. The
Radioshack Pro-96 is an example. If Arlington is rebanding then I think you
would still be able to listen to them if you had a crossband capable scanner
like the Pro-96 or Unidens BC396, Im assuming that the scanners software
would need to be updated. I havent learned much about rebanding yet.
