Squelch "Open" Definition ?

Hello:

I understand the usage of the Squelch control on a radio, but am not sure of
the terminology.

When Squelch is "Open," it means exactly what, please ?

Thanks,
B.

It means that it's leaking out. You must run quickly to your nearest radio
repair shop and buy a can of squelch to replace what you lost! (jk)

Serious answer: It means that the circuit to limit/cancel background (RF) noise
is not engaged, usually because the operator has turned the threshold down below
the noice level.
