New to this please help

HI,
I have owned police scanners in the past (small 10 channel ones) and am
thinking of buying the bc-250D

Would this scanner pick up highway patrol chatter on road trips including
aircraft? Does it pick up on CB? Thanks for your help. Like I said I am new
to this and the price really is no big issue for me on this scanner.

Very good scanner, you'll love it.

It will pick the highway patrol, local police, aircraft, fire and just
about anything you can think of BUT, IT WON'T PICKUP CB!!!!

Are you sure? My 780 picks up CB, and the 780/785/250 are all
supposed to be basically identical (except for George's report that the 785
is deaf as a stump in a couple of spots.)

A Pro-95 can scan CB, but I never hear much of anything unless someone is
driving past the house and transmiting.

^ The antenna however is less than optimal for CB
^ reception - that might account for the lack of
^ activity in that band for you.

I have not yet been able to pick up anything in the CB frequencies on my
PRO-93/2053. I even tried a 104 inch external wire antenna (with 50 feet
RG-58). I haven't used CB in 28 years but my recollection is that it is
normally very noisy - there is almost always someone to hear on at least one
of the channels. I suspect that 27 MHz is just too low for the PRO-93/2053 to
do well with.

I suspect that you haven't listened to CB in a while. In the Pittsburgh area
where I live, the CB is virtually silent, yes yes, the skip still rolls in on
a limited basis, but otherwise silent. It's nice, the CB can once again be
used for the communication tool that it was intended for. The new fad in my
area is FRS, the filth that used to be confined to CB has now expanded to FRS.
F--k your mother, let her suck my ...., etc. I'm glad that parents allow their
children to use this equipment unsupervised. Just like the home computer
though, it's a pacifier for your 13 year old daughter, who then ventures out
to meet some guy that kills her, no need to supervise those children, the
electronic pacifiers will do it.

Regards.

Never say never.
Nothing is absolute.

No. It was OK when I started but a few years later they started becoming
Christmas gifts. I even had a license, which I guess are no longer necessary
now.

Good. I might get one then. It might come in handy during one of my lone
wilderness excursions. I do remember that they traveled quite a ways from
mountain tops. My local Radio Shack has a nice looking handheld that I'll
investigate.

^ I have not yet been able to pick up anything in the
^ CB frequencies on my PRO-93/2053.

I tested the PRO-93/2053's CB search feature with a 5W CB transmitter, the
antenna positioned at three feet and again at 20 feet from the scanner.

With the scanner set to search mode in the CB band, the scanner DID NOT
receive any of my transmissions on several channels tested (4, 10, 20, 32).
This test was also done with the transmitter set to both 5W and 1W power out.

With a CB frequency programmed into one of the scanning channels the scanner
DID receive my transmission.

My conclusion is that the CB channel search feature on the PRO-93/2053 DOES
NOT WORK. Search mode DOES work in other search bands, but not CB.
