Default Attic antenna

Any recommendations for an antenna to put in the attic for use with a
bc895xlt scanner. Will be for general scanning and not on any particular
frequency. Dimensions would be helpful if anyone has this.

Bob,

You could get by with a Radio Shack discone, or a short vertical. I once
had a 46 in whip in an attic that was 6 foot at peak. If you own the home
and are prohibited from placing antenna outside you might try searching for
"stealth", "disguise" scanner antenna. I remember seeang ad for a vent
pipe antenna. I looked like the normal type of vent pipe on the roof;
only difference was that the antenna was inserted from under-neath in the
attic. You would need to cut a 2 in hole in the roof and do the pitch etc.
to prevent water from coming in.

good luck,
Mike

How much room do you have in your attic? If you have the room a Scantenna
is the best antenna out there but if you don't the 2nd choice would be a
Super Discone

I have enough room if it is mounted sideways. Will this affect performance?

Yes, as most of the stuff you want to listen to are vertically polarized
transmissions. If you mount it horizontally you will compromise the reception to
a great degree.
