There may be a ham or repair facility that might be able to correct whatever
problem it has....

Sell them if you have no other use for them.

I haven't seen alot of scanner radios being made NOW that accept crystals,
but there are a ton on the used market, that you could find. Garage sales
as well as hamfests yield good results. If it is not worth repairing, then
finding one this way might be worthwhile. Granted the old rock-based
scanners aren't as fast and definitely limited on the amount of frequencies,
but they typically have an awesome sound to them, and of course there is the
"nostalgia" factor as well.

I personally collect "rock-based" (crystal) scanners working or not. Let me
know if you choose to not repair it, as I might be interested in it for
parts.

Investigate the reason for the lack of sound. Try using an external speaker
or headphone if there is an option for such. Most often the external
speaker or headphone jack has provisions for disconnecting the internal
speaker, if this contact was excessively dirty, feasibly you could have
symptoms as you describe without any real problem with the scanner.
