^ The road belongs to motor vehicles. Not true. In the U.S. it is a privilege to drive a motor vehicle but walking is a right. Before motor vehicles everyone either walked or used horses in some manner. If you do not wish to use motorized transportation then you still have the right to move about the country by other means. In most cases the only way to get from one place to another is via a public highway. Pedestrians and bicycles have a right to use public highways, for motor vehicles that use is only a privilege.
