Pro-92 vs.Pro-95

I'm kind of new to scanners and need some advise. I'm trying to
decide on either the Radio Shack Pro-92 vs the Pro-95. I don't know
how important it is to have the EF Johnson LTR that the 92 has but the
95 doesn't. Otherwise, the 500 channels of the 92 is sufficient for
me -- I don't think I need the 1000 channels that the 95 offers.

What are the other differences between 92 and 95, and is there some
factor/consideration that would be a deciding factor between the two
models?

Thanks for any advise you might offer me.

These units are close enough in function that price may be the only deciding
factor if you don't need 1000 channels. You don't need EF Johnson LTR unless
you have one of those systems in your area.

=09My impression is (I only own and use a 92 and have observed others=20
using a 95) is that the 95 trunk tracks better, but the CTCSS and DCS=20
feature of the 92 makes it a better conventional scanner. Unless you are=20
in the "fringe" area of a trunked system, I think I'd opt for a 92. You=20
might check and see if the 92 is an original model or an "A" or "B"=20
spec. The "A" or "B" variants are better at trunk tracking than the=20
straight 92. In either event, get Don Starr's software (Win92 or Win95)=20
and a cable and load your freq's and alpha tags via the computer.

Well, I've had both, the 92 was ok at best, but the 93 (pretty much the
same as a 95 with less channels) is a great radio. The 92's (I actually
had two one was brand new, one was used) both went back.

The later ones are much better.

If your go to the
FAVORITE PAGES over on the left hand side on this site

http://www.strongsignals.net/index.cgi

and scroll to "Message Boards' click on TRUNK then
go to the bottom, under the message pain , you will find
a wealth of information on all the trunking scanners
also at the bottom of the FREQUENCY board are links
to sites with tons of frequency information.

When shopping for a trunk tracker radio scanner its
important to find as much information on the systems
in your area that can be monitored with today's technology.

Then match this up to the trunk scanner's specifications.
It's also great to down load a copy of the manual. to review and
study (specifications usually are located on the first several pages
and/or in back of the manual) BEFORE making the purchase and while
awaiting arrival of the scanner.
It's nice to have the manual down loaded on the computer when the scanner
is in hand!!
Get a computer cable and soft ware, it makes programing easy! Back up-save
the scanner's memory contents to disk, once it's set up!
