I'm looking at the uniden bc278clt.... Someone asked about this scanner at Strong Signals last month. I'm taking the liberty of cutting and pasting the reply here. Nice radio. Technically a desktop, but you can run it off a car battery. ... I use the BC278CLT both as a desktop scanner and as a mobile scanner, but now when it's in the car, I run it off a 9 volt regulated DC power apapter plugged into the car cigarette lighter. The BC278CLT has been reviewed [at strong Signals]. Its claim to fame (at least to me) was that, when it was discontinued at Best Buy two years ago, it sold for absurdly low prices - like, under thirty dollars. Strong Signals listers were driving miles and miles to scoop them up. Sorry, but those units are long gone. It makes a terrific mobile scanner, as the display is always lighted. It is good and loud too. What I would like most on it is a lighted keypad, as cellphones have. The person who wrote that reply at Strong Signals, "blair," left his email address there, so you can write him directly. |
