Using a 780. New at this.

Hoping to pick up some MIL Air stuff. Live outside of Boston.

Have the following parameters set; are they correct ?

Freq. Range: 138 to 144, and 225 to 406 MHz
Mode: AM
Step Size: 5 KC

Thesd are the correct frequency ranges. Also look for the
Air Guard A-10s in the VHF low band it's lake every other Mhz
form 30 MHz to 50 Mhz

Specifically, what you're talking about is air-to-ground communications
for the mud-crawlers calling in air strikes. Those communications could
be with USAF A-10 aircraft, or with US Army helicopters. Same goes for
the Marines, too.

I wasn't aware that 138-144 was allocated to military air, although I
remember all too well that the VHF command units on military aircraft
(mostly transports and other non-tactical -- i.e., fighter -- aircraft)
were capable of operating from 108 thru 143.995 or thereabouts. I
thought that it was part of the overall Aeronautical Service, with the
exception of a few FM frequencies just under the Amateur 2m band which
are used by Civil Air Patrol and MARS.

(When I was in the USAF I worked on avionics communications systems,
including the VHF and UHF voice-comm radios. The VHF unit of choice way
back then was the old Wilcox 807A, a VERY interesting rig. They don't
make them like that anymore.... But I digress....)
