Scanning this afternoon
 

Can you have too many scanners? Probably, but who's to say:

The wife comes home and asks "What are those police cars doing in front
of the house?" I look out and there are two cruisers, but no cops
around. I grab my Pro 95 and dial up the East Side talkgroup. Before
long I see the two officers heading back to the cars, and hear one of
them request the dispatcher call the residence. I grab my Pro 26 and
scan for a cordless phone ringing. Dispatcher says "No answer." He
asks her to try again. I don't hear any cordless signals, rats.

A few minutes later, the dispatcher says "He's angry, and refuses to
come to the window. He wants PD to leave." Yeah, like that will work.
I'm thinking they are serving a warrant or something, since they parked
out of sight.

The officers request a supervisor to the location. While waiting, I
see them circling the house, looking for a way in. I'm thinking I'm
missing some communication, so I grab my Pro 92 and scan while the Pro
95 stays on the main talkgroup.

I wasn't looking for EMS, but heard a request mentioning one of our
cross streets as I was scanning for a talkaround channel. Fortunately,
the paramedic didn't hear the transmission and asks for a repeat. It
turns out there was a suicide threat. The officers request another
unit, and before I know it, there are 6-7 cruisers and an ambulance
blocking the street.

They make entry (bust in?) and I don't hear anything for a while. I
figure the EMS is the best bet for info, so I lock on to this group.
All of the neighbors are out, and one know where to come for info. She
tells me her daughter plays at the house in question, and thinks the
grandfather is the one they're talking about.

As the scene clears, sure enough the paramedic is the one with the
details. He claims he didn't take any pills or anything, but he did
want the police to hurt him. He said all of the medication in the
house is accounted for, and the guy seem OK. The police took him in
to the county hospital for evaluation. Fortunately, the ambulance left
empty.
