Best software to go along with Pro-96?

I just bought a Pro-96 and want to buy some software to go with it. Is
Win96 the best, or is there something else I should buy?

I'm interested in increasing the functionality of the scanner.

Thanks,
John

Win96 is the only real alternative. It allows you to unlock a couple
of undocumented scanner features (including expanded band coverage and
a personalized greeting when the scanner is turned on). It also is
ergonomically excellent and fully takes advantage of every available
feature of the scanner. Support on the PRO-96 mailing list (on
YahooGroups) is also excellent.

Thanks! I just downloaded and registered Win96.

It's a shame that there's no real competition for the win96 software yet,
because it is a good piece of software, but the licensing scheme is a
definite problem. Don Star should be flat-out ashamed. I couldn't believe
my eyes when I read it. I'm glad I noticed that the license is tied to the
hardware before I purchased it, because this information is mentioned only
as an afterthought on the site. I guess it's fine for people who use the
same windows box for years on end, but it's not fine for others.

I write software for a living, so I fully understand the anti-piracy
reasoning for this license. But if you don't know how to make money from
software without licensing it this way, you shouldn't be in the business.

Intuit's Turbotax switched to a licensing scheme like this last year, and so
many customers fled to TaxCut (myself included) that they changed the
licensing back. Now I'm a Turbotax customer again.

Well, at least I got the initial freqs into the radio with the win96 demo
last year. Until something else halfway decent comes out for the pro96,
I'll just continue to make changes by hand. I'd gladly pay double for a
normal license and not have to consider this one piece of relatively low-use
software every time I want to change boxes. RIDICULOUS.

I won't buy TrunkStar without a demo, so here's hoping ARC96 might be decent
when it arrives.

Not sure if you've seen ARC250, but if the same quality standards are
applied (I'm certain they will be), you will be very happy. I just
bought a BC-296D and I've been thrilled with ARC250.

I switched to TaxBrain, a website instead of software, during the
TurboTax hullabaloo, but I don't find that I have any reason to
switch back to TurboTax now. I guess my customer loyalty isn't so
easily regained, especially being that I don't think they're the
best product on the market anymore.
