Retail is $30. I am asking $20 plus shipping

Frank February 24th 04 11:51 PM

Mike .. .

^ Retail is $30. I am asking $20 plus shipping

Used equipment normally tops out at 50% of retail. You should be asking $15
or less. Just because someone may pay more than 50% doesn't make you any less
a crook.

Oh, geez. The Internet Price Police are on patrol again. Why can't you
self-proclaimed consumer advocate a-holes just let free enterprise work the
way it's supposed to? I guess you'll be voting for Nader in November, huh?
Well, I guess it's better than voting for Bush.

And I'm free to warn people that they need not pay such prices.

Of course you're free to warn people. It was the name calling that seems to
have received the biggest reaction.

To quote Frank:
"Used equipment normally tops out at 50% of retail. You should be asking $15

You were calling the original poster a crook. He might call you an uptight
asshole. If he were that sort of person. I shouldn't speak for other
people though.

Sadly Frank, you and I have more in common than is appears. I've complained
for years that Amateur Radio and Scanner hobbyists are the biggest tightwads
in the world when it comes to selling their used gear. You need to come to
the local HAM Radio flea market we have here in the summer and call all
those people names as well Frank. That's where you're needed. You could
get a bullhorn and just yell at everyone from the roof of the hotdog stands.
Those guys will charge $10 off full-retail for 10 year old used gear. I
just think they're going to be hauling all that old gear back home at the
end of the day. You could help these people by calling them names and
telling them exactly what they're allowed to charge. You'd be the hit of
the flea market in no time!

Plus it will get you out of the house and away from you "radio" friends.
It's time to let sunlight reach your skin and make contact with other
humans.. in person.

Bill Crocker February 26th 04 10:30 PM

Retail originally was $39.95. To my knowledge, Max System's no longer makes
this antenna. It is worth exactly what someone who wants it, is willing to
pay. This is demonstrated countless times on eBay, where people often pay
much more than something is worth....because to them, it is worth what they
paid.

Mike is simply stating he is "asking" $20.00, plus shipping. Not too
unreasonable, considering many have paid more for brand new ones, and this
type of antenna doesn't burn out, or wear out.

When someone says, "asking", it's usually an indication that they're open of
offers as well. Someone has to start somewhere.

Still, according to Frank The Price Cop you can't charge more than 50% of
retail.

That would be $19.97... in Frank's sad sad world that's still 3 cents too
much.

Care to chime in Frank or are you triple-checking my match and getting stuck
with the decimals?
