=09He was asking about an antenna not a radio.

=09For that wide a range of frequencies I would recommend a discone.=20
Diamond makes a nice sturdy one, but it needs a type "N" connector at=20
the base of the antenna. They ("N" connectors) are a pain to assemble=20
(to this inept technician, at any rate). Beyond that, the Diamond=20
discone isn't cheap. There will be others who suggest that it is a poor=20
choice (no gain) but discones have worked satisfactorily for me. RS used=20
to sell a "Scantenna" clone that works well enough (flimsy though) - I=20
am using one right now as a matter of fact. They got closed out at about=20
$9.95 a couple years ago. Don't know if there any more around.

No antenna will work equally well over such a wide freq range. However,
antennas such as the discone are very good compromises. Little or no gain,
but wide frequency response.

Here's a biconical type antenna I built & used:

Seemed to work a little better than a discone.
