Chopper Frequencies

Would anyone have the frequencies for medical choppers?
Thanks

Medical choppers? That's an odd term for surgeons.

I used to work with a portly surgeon that looked remarkably like a butcher ...
an awfull pun for a surgeon !

But, I digress ... chasing med. choppers via scanner is my speciality ! :^]

When leaving or arriving an airport, you'll find them in the air band, so find
out where your local chopper's hanger is and listen to that airport's
frequencies for departure and arrival.

When in route, they will often keep in contact with the local Level 1 trauma
center. Here in Milwaukee, that is Froedert Medical Center and they use the
463.185 medical calling channel for the medical info (details about the
patient) but also use 129.495 (I think that's it) for non medical info.

As they approach the scene of the patient, they contact the local police or
fire department on their frequency. Often, you'll find out what freq. that is
as they are on route and talking to the trauma center.

THen it's back to the medical calling channel, or designated air band freq. as
they fly back to the hospital

WHat particular city are you interested in???

Here in Georgia we talk to them on the HEAR Channel at 154.34 MHz when they
get on-scene, but often they come up on our county Fire repeater frequency
while enroute. I would guess when enroute to the hospital they talk to the
hospitals on the UHF medical frequencies or on the 800 trunking frequencies
some of the hospitals use. These are pretty much the same frequencies used
by the ground ambulances in the same situations.

They get the folks without insurance.

Additional tips ...

I have the airband freq. and the home hospital med channel freq. in the scan
all the time. You can usually hear the chopper a ways out if you have a decent
antenna. Once you hear them enroute someplace, then you can chase them around
the spectrum (or in your car ... did that once ... ended up seeing TWO med
choppers at a car accident scene). Some times you'll get lucky and catch
choppers from nearby areas who are delivering critical cases over long
distances for special treatment. I even saw a USCG chopper once, which is
fairly rare around here.

I'm fortunate in that I only live 3 miles from a big local hosp. (not the level
1 trauma center though), and they often fly _ right over head_ when bringing
in critical patients for emergent surgery. VvvvvvrrrrRRROOOOMMMMMMmmmmm .... !

I also catch many of the news choppers either on 123.05mhz or the local TV
station frequencies (see your favorite database).

Happy chopper hunting

May I ask what model of scanner you have?
If it's a PRO-95 I might be able to help.

Search the web for LifeFlight, they will show you their frequencies. Sorry,
I can't find the link myself very quickly this AM.

Would have been nice if you gave your location. Here in Calgary,
Alberta, Canada. Med choppers are heard on 122.450, 158.760,
406.5375, and sometimes on 411.6375 and 411.7375. They also at times
use the RCMP tac channels 155.640, and 155.670.
