Cheap aerial, poss home made?

Hi

i'm after a cheap outdoor aerial for my old scanner, nothing special just
something to use to listen around the 450mhz range, i've seen
http://www.maplin.co.uk/products/mod...3&P roducts=1
which looks ok, but was just wondering if a whip would do the trick, i think
i saw somewhere someone who made something similar to the maplin one out of
a plastic pipe and a lot of telephone bell wire wound round it

dont really want to spend that much money on it as i'll probably get bored
again in a few months time and put it back in the loft!

ta

Chris

If it is just that one range, you might try making a J-Pole for that
frequency. You get a couple of db gain over a 1/4 wave whip.

Since you're not transmitting you don't need to worry about any fine
tuning.
