Hi Folks!
This past weekend (5/16/2004) I visited a local flea-market where I found an AOR AR-2500 scanner/monitor. I figured the guy would want $100 for it. Nope, he said he couldn't make it work and that numbers only scrolled across the display. $4.00 (four dollars). "Sold!" It has a power supply that looks modified as the cord appears to have been cut and + and - swapped. All this heat shrunk. Inside the radio there is a wire and transistor that appears to be connected to one of the front controls. The transistor also goes to a connector inside. The wire was loose on the control. All this also was heat-shrunk. I put it on a lighter-jack after getting hum with the 300mA power supply, and it seems to work OK! Lot's of intermod, however! There was aluminum/vinyl tape over some parts, and I've just read in the groups here that this might be factory! Might this transistor 'mod' be factory, too? Also, there appears to be a brown wire cut out of one of the harnesses. Other than this, it seems to be OK. Anyway, is this transistor stuff a cellular mod? Is the 300mA supply under rated? This scanner gets warm and must be drawing more than 300mA. Some strange behaviors: There is an up/down knob. Turning it right seems to raise the channels, and turning it left lowers the banks. Is that right? The down button seems to do nothing. Sel Bank button takes a few seconds to work. There is a red line (marker?) through the delete button and off the button to the side. Could all this be factory? Thanks! Harry |

![]() The AOR 2500 and the AOR 2515 were very similar models. The 2515 was actually produced before the 2500. Regarding the power supply, which I presume should be the same, the stock AOR supply (part number AA2001) that came with my 2515 is rated at 500 milliamps / 12 volts. Jeff Multer, Fort Mill, S.C. |
