Default Pro-92 Display question

For those of you with a Pro-92 scanner, could you please tell me what it
says on the LCD screen when you are uploading data from your computer into
the scanner? Mine says "Sending Data". (Even when it should be receiving
data.) Does yours by chance say "Receiving data"? THe local radio shack
doesn't deal with them any more.

I'm trying to solve a problem I'm having with uploading.

Thanks
Chris

Chris,

You're technically downloading data from the computer to the scanner. I'm
assuming you're using Win92. When I'm uploading from the scanner to the PC,
the screen says "Sending Data". When I'm dowloading from the PC to the
computer, the screen first says "Receive Data" and then "Sending Data" for
the data verification phase. What problems are you having exactly with
uploading (or downloading, as the case may be).

The problem I was having is that I was trying to determine if my scanner was
bad and whether or not to send it in for repair, since I could not get it to
say "Receiving data" when the data was being transferred from the computer
to the Scanner ("Upload to Scanner" in Win92).

I had been using Windows XP Pro and finally tried and entirely different
computer (Win 98 Second Edition) and the same cables (the Purple cable and
a USB/Serial Adapter from www.Pfranc.com)

It worked with the older cWindows 98 computer just fine. (The USB/serial
adabpter is not in the link) and Windows XP Pro is not being used.

So thanks, I got my problem solved.

The bottom line I guess is there is something that doesn't jive between a
Pro-92B, The purple cable, the USB serial interface and Windows XP Pro.

The scanner is not the problem, since you got it to work under Windows 98, with
a normal serial cable arrangement.

Sometimes there can be conflicts (comm settings or drivers, for instance) when
you use a serial-to-USB converter ... as you did with the computer running
Windows XP.

There can also be conflicts if something else is sharing the same port, such as
a modem, mouse, PDA, etc.

You might want to check the comm port settings on the two computers - atleast
for the ports you used in your test - and look at how the settings on the XP
compare to the Windows 98 PC.

If you are using Win92, consider contacting Don Starr for advice, and check for
any ".ini" files related to the comm port in the program.

I would also try borrowing a different make of serial-to-USB converter from
someone, and trying that out. The difficulties that the converters can add to
the equation are enough that some software writers - notably Butel (ARC 780 and
ARC 250) - don't offer technical support for their programs when the converters
are used.

Chris,

I see your problem. I had exactly the same problem on my XP box trying to
use a serial to USB converter. Most of them just don't seem to work very
well. I solved the problem by getting a $15 serial board. Now I have one
port dedicated to that board and Win92 works just fine.
