Uniden bearcat2500xlt battery

My battery says BP2500,600mAh 6.0v, in checking Radio Shack they have one
that looks identical however it says 500mAh 6v, what is the difference and
will it work in my Bearcat 2500xlt scanner?

simply that it will not power the device for as long.
i.e.
if the device uses 50mA of current an hour (50mAh)
then the original will run it for 12hrs
the replacement for only 10hrs.

as a footnote: you might do better to shop around for a NiMH battery pack
the type of batteries in the pack will have a significantly greater mAh rate
than a standard NiCAD one
and will probably not cost that much more.
the other benefit is that they do not suffer some of the re-charge life
problems that NiCAD's have.

the down side is that ofcourse, to get more 'up' hours, you have to charge
for more hours.

i have also known some 'built-in' charger circuits to complain or do not do
a proper job.

but to all intents & purpose, NiMH are a direct replacement for NiCAD packs

hope this helps,

Mike

Because the 2500 and 3000 have a proprietary case, it may be cheaper to have a
Batteries America (or similar store) rebuild your battery pack to your request
.... discharge rate and type of batteries.

Battery-Tech ( www.ebatterytech.com ) is a vendor who appears at some hamfests,
and used to list a 700 ma battery for the 2500 / 3000 at about $15. Phone is
800 = 442- 4275.
