796 versus 780
 

I would keep the BC780's as they are far better radios than the BC796
which is less sensitive and has a slower computer interface. The BC780
is just a classic Uniden radio, best in its class when it was made. It
makes a great MilAir radio and it is useful in scanning those LTR
systems if you have any important ones in your area.

The BC796D may decode digital but it is bested by the PRO-96 digital
scanner made by GRE which is easier to program and the PRO-96 sounds
far better in digital mode. The PRO-96 has built in features like
instant tone decode and the very important Sys ID scan to identify
those trunking system control channels, a feature found only by running
an external computer and a TRUNKER type program with a Uniden scanner.
Add a PRO-96 which is destined to be a digital classic radio to your
collection and keep at least one of your 780's and you have the best
of both worlds, digital and analog.

You are confusing the 780 with the 785. The 780 is strictly analogue,
the 785 has the option of installing a card for digital reception. The
796 can do both analogue and digital, no need for an optional card.

Again this is wrong information on the PRO-96 and Win 96 posted by
those who should not be allowed to use crayons much less a digital
scanner.

A user who could not figure out how Win 96 works should have asked
someone via the Internet.

With PRO-96 and Win 96 a user who knows how it works can paste and
entire page at a time not a cell at a time.
I can select channel data in Word or Excel and paste the whole bank
into Win 96. I can manipulate data so fast it is almost uncanny.
I find copying and dropping WEB data into WORD useful because there are
non breaking spaces often added by some dynamic web pages which create
some difficulty in manipulating data in most software products. Excel
or Win-96 for instance may not recognize a frequency copied from some
web sites as a number even though it looks likes a number to the human
eye.

I use Word's global replace to strip that stuff out and the data is
good to go.

I can transfer data to those who are computer challenged in CSV format
and they can program their copy of Win 96 in the flash of an eye blink.
Of course I can send data in P96 format but those with a Uniden scanner
can not use that format. Smart ones can also use my CSV format files
with a few editing steps.
