Scanner recorder software

OK,

I worked an event yesterday, and I wanted a audio recording of the ham
radio network coverage of that event, so I went looking for scanner
recorder software.

The first stop was google which brought me to strong signals...

I downloaded and tried:
Audio Record Wizard,
Scancorder
and
Xcorder

Audio Record Wizard looked really slick, but it's demo only goes for 3
minutes. It seemed to work well enough. They wanted $25 for
registration.

Next was Scancorder. It had a cheesy push button interface. I couldn't
get it to see audio coming into my machine, plus it had a demo mode
that would only record for about 4 minutes. They wanted $29 for
registration.

Finally, was Xcorder. It's website isn't very sexy, but HOLY COW what a
nice application. It includes logging, log stamping, VOX based
recording, timed recording, separate files per hour, a visual VU
meter... And it was free to begin with.

I used Xcorder for the event and it worked flawlessly. The timed record
started it on time and shut it off too, (saving disk space). I saved
the results to a wav file, but it also supports about half a dozen
different formats.

For me, Xcorder did the trick.
