PRO - 95 or PRO 2066?
 

Any advantages to either of these scanners? Other than the fact that
the PRO 95 is a handheld of course? TIA,

I have found that my 95 seems to work fine indoors. When I have compared it
to "desk top" scanners it seems to pick up just as well. Given that, I would
always prefer a portable to a desk top. Why buy one you can't take with you
if you wish? NiMh rechargeable batteries have gotten very cheap these days,
and are well worth buying for these.
Now I am FAR from being any kind of expert on these. I only listen to the
Police so there may be some advantage to the desk tops I don't know about,
but for Police calls, I would not bother with a desk top now that I tried a
hand held.

The PRO-95 is a trunk tracker with ALPHA tags. I don't know about the 2066,
but I doubt it has ALPHA tags, and it does make a big difference

I own both of these units. The 95 is dual trunking, receives trunking and
non trunking frequencies at the same time. It can be programmed via software
on your computer (makes life much easier!) The 2066 is a trunking scanner
but will not trunk and receive conventional frequencies simultaneously, and
can not be programmed via your computer. The 95 has alpha tags and 500
channels, the 2066 does not have tags and is 150 channels.

That said, I have not done side by side tests for sensitivity on all bands
but I can tell you that the 2066 is better in the 900 mhz band than either
the 95 or 2053 (base version of the 93, 95). The 2066 also scans a bit
faster. I run the 2066 on conventional frequencies here in the shack, while
I scan trunks and conventional with the 780xlt. This way, I don't miss
anything on the conventional side while the 780 is on a trunk. My 95 is
usually used for portable operation only, or when I want to listen while in
another room of the house. I think both are fine radios.
What radio you pick should be based on the way you intend to use it. If you
want to listen to both trunked and conventional frequencies, would like
alpha tags, and want to program via your computer, the 95 is your best bet.
It will also cost you a few more dollars. Hope this helps. Enjoy,
