Pro-2004 Displays Wrong Frequency
 

Hi all, I have a Pro-2004 and when I program a frequency, say 460.050 for
our local police, I get 460.0516 on the display. Also, if I punch in
45.000, I get something like 76.5295. I know there were some Pro-2004's
with bad solder joints but the problem only came up recently. Can I have a
bad RAM chip? Has anyone else ever expeienced this as well?

Hi Mike!

Yes I did, I still get the same thing although when I punch in the frequency
in the channels, I get the wrong frequency but when I go back to check, it
is correct. Sometimes even the mode gets screwed up, sometimes I get AM or
WFM mode as well. I'm wondering if it is a power problem, maybe the logic
board isn't getting full voltage, the scanner cut out on me totally for
about a second or two and came back on but it was totally clear, all the
channels were open, waiting to be programmed again. It's like it had a
lobotomy. I've been busy, otherwise I'd tinker with it but maybe with the
power cutting out, perhaps it is leading me into the right direction. The
Pro-2004 is my favorite scanner of all time, I'm somewhat bummed, at least I
have a Pro-43 and Bearcat BC-210 so I'm not totally in the lurch. I also
have Bearcat BC-101 I need to tinker with too, for some reason it doesn't
receive, the computer logic circuits seem fine though, if that went bad, I
know I'd be SOL there, the scanner was made in 1974. B-)

I have a 2004 with the same problem. Program a specific frequency into a
memory channel, go to another channel, then come back to the channel you
just programmed and you find it changed itself to something else.

I've always presumed the scanner finally gave in to the cold solder joint
dilemma. Over the past few years I've seen very few 2004s out there that
worked 100% perfect.

I have a couple of PRO 2005's , both about 20 years old, and
they still work perfectly. The troubles you are describing could come from
a weak battery (if used), a dirty switch (push buttun)., or a defective
processor unit. The last one happened to me with a VCR recorder and it
turned out to be cheaper to scrap it and purchase a new one from one of the
discount retailers. KOMBATT 18,

Maybe a problem with the membrane keypad?
