New 6.25kHz and 7.5kHz Channel Spacing -- Questions???
 

I am thinking about updating my BC245XLT, and am considering the
Uniden 250D (or 250DID). After searching the web and several back
issues of Monitoring Times, I've read bits and pieces about the new
federally mandated channel spacing for VHF (7.5 kHz) and UHF (6.25
kHz). After reading through the pdf manual for the 250D, it looks
like that scanner will do 7.5 but not 6.25 kHz steps.

How much will this limitation affect my scanning ability in the near
future?

Can anyone point me to some more information on this? I've tried
googling it, but I didn't come up with anything very useful. I've
seen a couple of references to it in MT, but I must have missed any
articles about it -- I have a few years of back issues, so if anyone
could give me a reference I could dig it out.

I don't know about the scanners you listed, but I see the BC246T will do
6.25 KHz spacing. Won't help you if you need digital, but it's a great
scanner for everything else.
