Yes, but it doesn't continuously display a received frequency... With the
Signal stalker mode, it locks onto a frequency, and stays there until the signal is lost, even if it isn't exactly the correct frequency for the transmission. In the hacked Frequency counter mode, the frequency display will vary, so you can get a better idea of what the actual frequency is, as the "counter" in the scanner doesn't have perfect accuracy. It's not the same... Signal Stalker doesn't always lock onto the correct
frequency a transmission is coming in on, nor does it continuous display incoming frequencies. I've had it pick up signals on frequencies that were up to +/- 10KHz off of the actual transmit frequency. In the mode I describe, the scanner shows a varying frequency readout. This is unlike the Signal Stalker mode which just grabs the signal on whatever frequency, correct or not, and stays there until the signal is lost. You can get a more accurate idea of the actual (correct) frequency in the "counter" mode. And as I said over in A.B.R-S, I don't subscribe the stupid Yahoo! Group, so I didn't see any posting made by whoever it is that you reference below... If he found it before me, Good For Him! I posted here because I hadn't seen anybody else post anything in reference to any sort of Keyboard Hacks. Credit Is due to myself, as I spent the time (hours mind you) trying out every combination I could come up with, and cataloging them in my list. The Bc246T seems to show simular behaviour, specially the freq.counter trick

Doesn't have S.A.M.E. alert, so it's not really anything special... About the only selling point the scanner has is the Signal Stalker feature. I do like the feature. Receives quite well, even from a good distance away. Distance depends on the transmitted signal's strength of course. As a example, I can detect the local PD repeater broadcasts with the S.S. at a distance of well over 3 miles away from the tower. If I recall correctly, they transmit at about 50-watts. On the other hand, Taco Bell drive through (tested just for contrast purposes,) I had to be within 20- to 25-feet of order box. Of course, they only transmit in the milliwatts, so that's expected... Oh, and if you are prone to overload by pagers, you will have to spend a few minutes of your time locking them out as they pop up. Doesn't matter where I am around here, the unit constantly picked up those damn pagers in the S.S. mode! Once I got them locked out, however, the S.S. feature works flawlessly... My opinion. Well worth the $60 price tag, and not a bad buy at the $120 price tag. |

You might get lucky with a low starting auction and get it a buck or two under $90. I must say that I completely enjoy mine. It's only used in stalker mode.
