Are these radios any good?

I am wanting to get a radio for my bonus room upstairs to use as a
"base station" Money is a concern. (Baby on the way.) COuld a handheld
such as this be hooked to a tower antenna and maybe an external speaker
and be useable?

What about this one. How much would a Mike be? Is it too much of a
gamble?

Yes. I've hooked my portable to an external antenna many times.

It's a decent radio.

At a hamfest? Including connectors you'll need? Maybe $10. I'd also
consider a power supply so you wouldn't have to depend on the battery
- which he admits doesn't hold a charge too well.

Is it too much of a gamble?

If you think he's lying that it works. Otherwise no.

"THERE IS A PART OF THE HEAT SINK MISSING " ... "TOP AND BOTTOM COVER
HAVE BEEN REPAINT "??????

I'd forget this one. Sounds like it's had a hard life.
