Broad spectrum jammer

I want to create "no RF zone" for a size of 2 football fields. Would satellite
jamming be the only option? Any thoughts?

Bill Crocker December 13th 04 02:58 AM

The legal way to do it, would be shielding. Any type of jamming, over an
area that large, I think would be illegal, under FCC rules, and regulations.
That being said, fire up one of those old Golden Eagle CB's from the South,
with a 2KW linier...that should do it! LOL!!!

Perhaps if you could give more information about what you plan on doing
(end results) the members of this group might be able to offer
alternatives?

The term "Spark Gap" comes to mind!

Are you saying you do not want RF to enter this zone? Or are you saying you
do not want anyone to pick up a usable signal in this zone? Or are you
saying that anything broadcast in this zone should not make it out of the
zone? A bit more description of what you want would help a great deal.

If your goal is the first or the last you are essentially not going to get
it done short of complete enclosure and RF shielding. The second is very
doable, but probably illegal. To get the bandwidth you would want might
require something like a spark gap, as another poster has mentioned, or
similar ultra wide band emission sources.

What, pray tell, is satellite jamming? Remote jamming stations spread
around the area maybe? Because satellites in orbit make very bad jamming
platforms if this is what you are thinking.

They jam around the President to eliminate the threat of RF detonated
explosive devices not to impair communication.

Frightening the yaks, Colic just had to say:

A Faraday cage that covers 2 football fields... A double layer
of chicken wire might do it, depending on the freqs he wants to
exclude.

I would doubt very much if they jam any presidential or secret service
communications; or any public safety communications system since they would
also be extensively involved in presidential security. Then there are the
multitude of frequencies used by the various media involved in covering the
event.

So there has to be large holes in the jamming spectrum - I would suspect the
jamming is quite selective and devoted to those frequencies determined to
pose a threat, just as military jamming is designed to deny useage of
specific frequencies or bands while permitting use of their own equipment.
It is a quite complex, and possibly dynamic, problem.

I rather doubt this is the case. Simple issue of government agencies
wanting communications themselves around a protected individual. So those
chunks of spectrum would need to be clear. And those clear chunks could
then be use.

Alternately, if a jammer was used that was ONLY in the immediate area of the
protected target, say plus or minus 100 feet, and covering all of the
spectrum except a few very specific frequencies, then that could be used as
a detonation initiator itself. Just build a device that looks for a "safe"
signal, and when the safe signal goes away, do your thing.

This all points to a real problem with jamming for the purpose of not
allowing explosive devices to detonate. It just makes no real since.
