HELP: My IC-R2 is sick.

My IC-R2 is very sick.

It's not picking up ANY frequencies.

When squelch is at AUTO, I hear a faint hiss and it will scan MAYBE 10
channels a Minute! When at Level 1-9, I only hear a faint hiss when I
hold the monitor (sql) key in.

Tried tuning my local FM radio stations (WFM) and nothing, just the same
faint hiss.

I did a total and a partial reset with no luck.

A Pro-95 and AR8200 in the same room are loud and clear.

Nothing is rattling around inside! :\

What's wrong with it???? Should I fire up my torch and cook it? :(

I wonder if the antenna connector broke inside? Can you open it up to
inspect it? I'm sure whatever is wrong could be repaired if you sent it
back to Icom. On the other hand, you could eBay it for whatever you can
get, then put the proceeds toward a new IC-R5 or something...it's better
than torching it.

Did the antenna get zapped by static electricity recently? If so, you may
have blown the front end of the receiver.

i'd guess the connector has come loose on the wire to the PCB.common
problem.

crack it openb & resolder.
if you can't solder, get a local Ham to do it.

Doug,

Thanks for your reply.

If I can figure out how to open it, I'll check for that connector.

Merry Christmas,

Andy

Bill,

If it did, I wasn't around to notice that. If it's not a bad connector,
I'll send it back to Icom for repair.

Merry Christmas,

Andy

mike,

Thanks for your help. I'll have to open it up and do a continuity check.

Merry Christmas,

Andy
