I've had scanners all of my life, but never one dedicated to trunk
tracking. I've read reviews and familiarized myself with what's
available, but what I really need are real-world opinions by the people
who own them. In your view, what is the BEST unit?

Depends on where you are. Do you need Digital? What system? UHF? VHF?
LTR? EDACS?

For non-digital trunking handheld:

The PRO-95 is on sale now at Radio Shack
for $129! This represents a fantastic value. 1000 memories, alpha tags,
computer
programmable, (a must in my opinion). Great free programming software
from Don Starr at http://www.starrsoft.com/

I do not own a the new Uniden 246T (trunk tracker III), But I just read a
review in
this Months Popular Communications by Gordon West.
This thing sounds pretty sweet: Upto 1600 memories, built in
frequency counter, etc... Wow for $229.
