Finding frequencies on my scanner (Stupid Q?)

Hello, all,

If this is a stupid question please let me know or ignore me.

If it's not, I'd sure like to learn the answer, or at least some
pointers to where I can get it. I'm quite new to the community of
scanner users, but this newsgroup seemed like a good place to ask.

I have a Radio Shack PRO-90 300-Channel TrunkTracker Scanner that I
bought I don't know how many years ago, and I live in the Kansas City
area, near 75th and Pflumm in Shawnee, Kansas, if that helps.

Where can I find a list of interesting frequencies to scan?

It seems like someone or several someones would have already come up
with good lists of frequencies for various geographical areas. Am I
right about this? If so, are they secret?

First, as my Dad use to say, there is no such thing as a stupid question.
You don't know and there are probably others that don't. You just took the
big step and asked. Bravo!

As to the frequencies, I live on the west coast near San Francisco, so I
don't have the answers. You might go to various Radio Shacks nearby and ask
for frequencies. When I use to work at a RS store, we had ready made lists
to hand out of the local freqs. We may have been the exemption there. But
most stores will have some knowledge (hopefully) of the local PD, FD, etc.

If there are scanner clubs in the area, there can be a wealth of info. If
you know any Hams, ask them.

Out here in California, we have a guy who publishes whole books on
frequencies for the state, broken down by areas. See if there is a Ham store
or Scanner store near you. They may have the same idea.

Sorry I can't be of more help than that. Let us know what you find, and
maybe post some freqs, or tell us where you finally found the info. After
all, there's probably someone lurking, just wondering how to find the same
info.

Oh, as some people will probably say (and it can be oh, so, true) Google is
your friend G. Give it a whirl. What have you got to lose?

I almost forgot. You can also ask on alt.radio.scanner That's another good
scanner news group. Eric

One more time....Went to Google. Typed in shawnee + kansas + frequencies
and got over 5000 hits. One of the first ten even listed a TrunkTrack Fleet
Call. How's that for research? BTW there is a space between the + signs and
the names and words. Other than that, just the three words.

All kinds of frequencies. Even noticed one in the first hit for a Country
Club near your....That might make for some good and/or boring

Dear Mr. Ferguson,

Thanks for all the help. I thought I was Googling correctly, but
apparently I wasn't.

I am so unfamiliar with scanners that I don't know what "trunked" or
"ID" or "Type II" mean, and I don't know what my scanner is capable of
(apparently not much in my hands so far). I can never seem to get any
of the frequencies or frequencies ranges I try to find anyone talking.
Is there a Web site or other online source of information you would
recommend?

Thanks for the list. I didn't realize scanner people might think of
"Shawnee, Kansas" as meaning the COUNTY of Shawnee, which is quite far
away from the city of Shawnee where I live.

They have a hell of a lot of info. Back when Our city police switched over
to 800 trunked, I already had a Pro-95 I had bought a year or so earlier. I
had one hell of a time trying to learn how to understand the manual. Asked
for help on a couple of groups and got nothing back then. I finally found
what I needed after much MUCH searching G. After I saw a link to this
place, and sure wished I had known about it from the start as it had
everything I needed in easy to understand info.
