96 chevy truck radio location help

x-no-archive:

I just bought a 96 extended cab 4x4. Where would be the best looking
and usable placement of my icom 2 meter radio? What would be the best
looking antenna configuration.

Sit behind the wheel. Reach out toward the dash with your right hand.
Wherever you can touch without stretching uncomfortably is a good
place for the mic. Youy should be able to see the speaker grill
(obstructions to sight also obstruct sound).

What would be the best looking antenna configuration.

You want the best looking one, or one that works best? Remember, the
trunk lid is about 5db down from the roof, so use the trunk if you
want the loss, the roof if you don't. Or use a Larsen 5/8 on-glass if
you want something that works and doesn't leave holes in the car.
