whether I have fm or AM set.

Found the following freq's that apparently my town utilizes.

123.000

The 123.0 one is particularly perplexing for me, as I thought that puts
it in the middle of the AM band,
which I always thought would be just for aero. Would a Town service use
AM rather than fm ? Why, if so ?
