BC895XL Loses Memory
 

Has anybody had the problem where their BC895XL randomly loses its memory?
Mind did a few days ago and I reprogrammed it yesterday then overnight it
lost it again. It was powered up the whole time so it's not a dead battery
issue.

Mine did the same thing last night during a thunder storm. Would this be
an internal battery issue for memory or what.

I personally don't think it's a battery problem because my memory got wiped
overnight while the radio was turned on and connected to a fully charged 20
A-hr battery. Since the circuits were energized, it shouldn't be relying on
a battery or cap.

I've emailed Uniden support but haven't heard from them yet.

I'll keep the group informed of what happens.

Nope, but I know someone that has a memory problem on a BCT7. Looses memory
randomly, though only when not connected to power. My guess is a bad
capacitor in his unit. For yours, I can't see how it could loose memory
considering it was powered up the whole time. Only "best guess" scenario I
can come up with is an intermittent short (or open) in the memory circuit,
possibly temperature related.

That's what has me so confused! As far as temperature related, could be,
but sitting on a table in the living room overnight doesn't sound too
extreme to me. Although, I've seen stranger things in the past.

I guess the temperature factor depends upon how long the unit was on before
it lost it's memory. If the unit had just been turned on and programmed,
the components inside may not have "warmed up" the inside of the case to the
point where the temperature (potentially) effects the circuit, though that
temperature possibly was reached sometime during the night... Again,
complete speculation, as I don't know how long the unit was powered up
before "overnight" happened, or even if that is the real problem at all.

Well, just got a reply from Uniden. "It sounds like you need to send it in
for service. That will cost you $57.95. Have a nice day!"

I guess there's no reason not to pop the cover and poke around now. There's
nothing to lose. I just wish Uniden's customer service was a little more
helpful than "give us some money and we'll just throw a reworked circuit
board in it and call it good."
