Software DSP audio filter programs versus hardware audio filter DSP units

How do the software DSP audio filters like "Swezey Audio Filter" and
GNASP1 audio processor compare to hardware DSP's like the "Gap Hear it
inline module"? Or the Timewave and others featured on the link below?

I can tell that the Swezey is much better than the GNASP1 because I
compared them for several hours, but I have never seen of the modern
hardware units.
