The S350 has analog tuning, and a frequency counter readout. That's
where at least some of the celebrated drift comes from.

But according to Radio Shack (and various people's comments about
the tuning steps) the 12-150 has synthesized tuning.

That is a pretty blatant difference.

ANd once they make that sort of "mod", there is little reason to
even believe there is anything in common between the two radios.

You should have stuck with the line about how they are equally bad,
because whether or not that is true, it's more true than claiming
the radios are the same.
