Thing you have to keep in mind is that the closest thing they have to anyone with real technical knowledge is an insane ham and a high school science teacher with a bad memory. They havent even set up some sort of telegraph between the bridge and town. It does not need to be electrical, there were mechanical telegraph systems long before electrical ones. IMHO you are judging it as if the cold war never ended, they are acting like it never happened. Having come of age in the 1960's I really think it's an accurate depeciton of what would happen. In the late 1960's I was thinking of how to turn a walk in closet into a fallout shelter and photographic darkroom. While it has it's moments, and a few "inside jokes" like the fake Rolex, it's not really funny. Of course it might be because I live in a safe part of a country that was under constant missle attack for over a month. In the north, several hundred rockets arrived each day, destorying the infrastructure, killing people, wiping out crops and livestock and forcing people to live in shelters for over a month. We still are being hit with rockets in the south, killing people and destroying homes, schools and jobs, every day. To you it's one big joke because you are so well informed and so smart, to me it's a prohpetic vision a world filled with ignorant people who little or no practical education and average intelligence. To keep it on subject that's why I check the battery in my FR-200 once a month to make sure it will take a charge. The original one died. What I find is the problem with it is that the people live like there will be a truck with food showing up tomorrow. Not very much conservation. A multi-megatone device going off at ~400 miles up would produce minimal surface effect except for the EMP and the optical pulse which would likely fry the optic nerves of anyone looking at it. And given the double pulse effect of thermo-nukes, the first dimmer pulse would attract the views attention just in time for the whammy. You might want to take this over to misc survivial. Real data from military studies about EMP effects and containment have been linked to. I will stand by my comments about it is high humour. They haven't done anything a wise or prudent group would.
